Without question, Temecula has been committed to having a first-class
parks and recreation system. With the 36 new parks that we have built in
the last 17 years, we are the envy of other cities. Our recreation
programs win awards year after year.
The one area that we have a shortage of is sports fields. With the
addition of 45 acres of fields in Wolf Creek and 16 acres in Harveston,
the situation will be greatly improved.
When we formulated our Parks and Recreation Master Plan in November
of 1993, we set a very ambitious goal of 5 developed park acres per 1000
people. This is 66% higher that the State of California recommends. With
the addition of the above mentioned facilities and other projects
currently planned, we have done well in meeting that goal.
